Starting school 2025- 2026

School_start25

The start of the school year is approaching, and we hope you have had a wonderful summer. This message outlines some important information for the start of the school year.

On Monday, Aug. 25, students should report to their assigned homerooms, where their homeroom teachers will greet them. Students in grades 1-7 arrive at 8:30am and students in grades 8-10 arrive at 9:10am.

The after-school program at Klapparholt also begins on Aug. 25 for enrolled students, starting at 1:30pm when the school day ends. For inquiries or to register for the program, please contact the Klapparholt directors at klapparholt@reykjavik.is

Since our school first opened—celebrating its 20th anniversary last spring—we have had a tradition of conducting home visits the week before classes begin. During these visits, teachers and other school staff meet with students and parents to strengthen the home-school connection, address any pressing questions or concerns about the start of school, and review key priorities for the upcoming year.

In recent years, these home visits have been prioritized for students in grades 1, 3, 5, and 8, as these are key transition years where students form new learning groups, transition to new school divisions, and get new teachers.

First grade orientation is on Aug. 22 at 8:30am.

School orientation, as per the school calendar, is on Friday, Aug. 22 at 4:15pm.

It is a tradition to hold the orientation in the afternoon, bringing together staff, students, and their families to meet and celebrate the new school year. The orientation usually takes place at Björnslundur.

We look forward to seeing you on orientation day,
Norðlingaskóli staff
