Useful information for starting school
Children in Iceland start compulsory primary school in the year they turn six. They will be placed in their district school, and the guardian will have to confirm the enrollment online. You can also apply for a school placement in a school outside the school district.
Students with legal residence in Norðlingaholt have an absolute right to enrollment in Norðlingaskóli and therefore priority if the school needs to limit enrollment numbers.
Norðlingaskóli has limited facility space and therefore cannot accept children from outside the Norðlingaskóli school district.
This aligns with Reykjavík City rules regarding school districts, applications and enrollment in primary schools.
